Overwatch: Doomfist's Rocket Punch Distance Nerfed on the PTR

So why was this specific distance nerfed? Blizzard didn't give a reason for it on the forums (or indeed, even mention the nerf), but we can speculate a bit based on things we've seen Doomfist able to do on the PTR.




On several maps, most notably Eichenwalde, Doomfist's Rocket Punch was able to let Doomfist ramp off of things in conjunction with his Rising Uppercut to completely circumvent buildings and the traditional routes to objectives. While Doomfist's high mobility is a core part of his kit, it seems that Blizzard wanted to make sure at least some of the more unfair ones don't work. You can see this in action below:

While some heroes are certainly able to take similar routes, none with the exception of maybe Pharah can do so as quickly. It seems that Doomfist's damage has been untouched, though. This nerf to his mobility could hurt his usefulness in some situations, but he should still be able to get in effectively from more conventional angles. Doomfist's release date is still shrouded in mystery for live Overwatch servers. Given the team's adjustments to the hero, there's likely still a few weeks of testing to do, and perhaps more tweaks, in addition to all of the villain's skins that have yet to be revealed.
